A war casualty's boots were brought into a damaged church as a memorial. The painting was based on WW1. The boots are from the South of France, the barbed wire is authentic from the First World War. The painting was finished on April 6th, the exact day the United States entered the war 100 years ago, unbeknownst to me at the time.
