Coastal Evening by Kenn Backhaus

Catalina Island lies off the southern California Coast. Many a painting trip to the island with fellow artists produced not only great memories but multiple plein air studies that resulted in some larger studio works. The back side of Catalina Island is rugged and still wild in nature. This evening overlook depicts the last shimmers of light across the Pacific Ocean as coastal atmospheric clouds begin to form in the cove below. This painting represents just one of the many spectacular scenes to be discovered on this beautiful island.
