“Like so many artists before me, I relish painting the womanly pear. It is also a pleasure, when buying a pear, to find it wrapped in tissue.  Over time these tissue wrappers became a major component of my work. There is something enticing about an organic form wrapped in translucent material. The nuance of how light filters through the diaphanous wrapper with a seemingly endless variety of folds and wrinkles is fascinating. Then, the light bounces off the pear bringing warmth or coolness with it to move again through the wrapper.  It is a great delight for the eye. This piece, Perched, was a commission for a woman who has an affinity for birds. I had no intention when composing this painting to mirror her love of birds, but upon completion, I noticed it seems poised for flight.” – Lorena Pugh
