Happy Birthday, Tristesse by Dirk Dzimirsky

“This artwork is not about a fun birthday party. I imagined  what it would be like leading a dull life without perspective and how it would look when a person would celebrate that, just for the sake of celebration, not because you cherish it. This probably comes from an experience I had when I was a child. I attended a friend's birthday party but it was such a sad and depressing event because his mother did not care about him and all the children felt quite uncomfortable and were unhappy. Until then I never really had experienced something depressing like that, but the memory of this never went away and influenced my art later onwards.” - Dirk Dzimirsky
