"This drawing is a character study of a dear friend. The model is both poised and wise for her young age. She is naturally contemplative and empathetic to a fault. But even in her youth she has been through a lot and over the past few years I have witnessed how her life experiences have shaped her. Renewal is defined as being made new or strong again. The model is currently in a moment of transition, somewhere between childhood and womanhood. The bloom woven into her curly hair and the storm clouds behind her represent both the beauty and bleakness of life. Yet both are transient. She stands peacefully in the present moment, shaped by her past and looking forward with purpose towards her future." - Meghan Sours
