Books and Butterflies by Steven Levin

"In this work I'm making a contrast between the delicacy and transience of butterflies and the permanence of the books. The pages of the books, though aged, make a visual synonym with the butterfly wings. The theme of metamorphosis suggested by the butterflies is carried through in the winding vine which is dead at the bottom of the picture but alive and in bloom at the top." – Steven Levin
