I believe that The Florence Academy of Art is a neutral environment that is helping me develop several tools for achieving competency and clarity when working from life. The Academy teaches how to "listen" to what you are seeing in order to capture the true essence. I believe that it is crucial to quiet your own voice and listen to what you are experiencing and feeling. True listening is the key to understanding and good paintings offer a truth that is often indescribable with words alone.

To me, a truly powerful painting is a dither that exists between the unconscious and rational thought. It is true and speaks to the human spirit, but exists in a raw and untampered form that is often not yet completely comprehended by the consciousness. It cannot be described entirely in words, writing, or any other form of rationality that is too often seen as the only reality.

I find psychology, philosophy, and mythology always on my mind and all the mysteries that it holds. Upon graduating from The Florence Academy of Art, I would like to dive deep into applying the methods of listening that I have learned and integrate them into my own microcosm. I believe that being in tune with what is bubbling up from my unconsciousness through dreams, passions, ideas, and introspection is a key to bring forth and further develop the universal and deeply human narrative that has been manifested through art for millennia.

I would like to continue studying under a master painter who holds this same belief. Continuing to hone the technical side of the craft, I also want to explore how far the boundaries can be pushed. My goal is to be a storyteller- using paint as my medium.
