Self Portrait in the Primordial Forest
Graphite and White Chalk on Toned Paper
12 x 9 ins (30.48 x 22.86 cms)
A self-portrait was done with a mirror during quarantine after returning from the academy after it had to temporarily close in spring 2020.
It was hard to stay motivated to continue developing as an artist with all the stress and uncertainties that covid presented. With the isolation that ensued, I had a lot of time to dive within and try to understand myself. The clouded forest is symbolic of the vast unexplored areas of my shadow. Occasionally, when socially estranged for so long, I found it necessary to check my pulse just to differentiate between dreams and reality.
