29.75"x41" One of series of acrylic paintings illustrating scenes from "Frankenstein." Victor Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein is selecting body parts he will use for his experiment of creating life. Victor has no repulsion using body parts, which had spiritual meanings and were forbidden. To Victor, the body parts are nothing but ingredients for his experiment, a mean to his beautiful creation and secret to life. As a 'creator,' Victor handles bodies of the dead, the 'have-nots,' who will become part of his 'creation.' In this scene, he is the one who has power over the dead bodies, selecting parts he needs and throwing away parts he doesn't. The contrast is made stronger with light cast over bodies on table and shadow over bodies in trash-bin. While Victor is passionate and sincere to his interest in science and knowledge of life, and is fully determined to find perfect pieces for his 'creation,' his action of using dead body is blasphemous and morally unacceptable to the society.
