Hey Mark. I didn't see the question / too busy. My business approach has always been diversified with multiple income streams. The advice my teachers gave me was to sell both your art and your 'hands' (the
art skills and knowledge), letting any one activity feed into the others. I earn money from art sales and commissions, teaching, investments, and landlord/rentals. My wife is also an artist. (Our cat practices the fine arts of hunting and sleeping!)
I don't think it gets any easier with time. I do know quite a few artists who make a living solely from their art. Some of them are happy, some aren't.
