Do you realize that someone is paid to place the lights in art museums? When I was last at the Chicago Art Institute the lights were placed at just the right spot to create extreme glare when one stood at the best spot in front of the painting. Experts NOT DOING THEIR JOBS WELL!
I find that pretty amazing too, but half of the museums I visit have exactly that problem. You simply cannot see the paintings clearly even when they are right in front of you. I have to think that it is either stupidity or intentional degradation of paintings they don't want exhibited well even if they must hang them on the walls from time to time.
