I began painting after careers in tax accounting and biochemistry; I guess that’s just about as far from art as you could get.  But a love of drawing and painting as a child and teen stayed with me until time permitted, and from the moment I took my first class as an early retiree, I was committed to learning everything I could about painting.   It is a bit of magic that with nothing but a squeeze of paint, good brushes, and a receptive surface, you can tell a story.  The hope of pulling off that little miracle every now and then is what brings me to my studio almost every day.

I attribute my love of water to the summers I spent at my grandparents’ cottage in Wisconsin.  The cottage was built to bring our extended family together as often as possible.  It forged wonderful memories which keep us close even though the cottage is no more.  A contest early in my painting career required scenes from Confluence Park in Denver and the photos taken while exploring the area attracted me to the reflections, transparency, and movement of water that have become a frequent theme in my paintings.

But ultimately, beautiful light, interesting shapes, and cohesive value patterns are things I look for in a subject, and that allows me to paint just about anything.

Finding beauty in the details has led me to a realistic style, and I am drawn to bold values and intricate patterns.   I have studied with some of Colorado and Arizona’s best artists and am continually looking for ways to improve my craft.  I am a Fellow, Board member and Treasurer of the American Society of Marine Artists, a Signature member of the Oil Painters of American and a Signature Member of American Women Artists.   I have been published in Fine Art Connoisseur and International Artist magazine.    My husband Dave and I split our time between Colorado and Arizona.
