He initially painted historical pictures. Egg was one of the few Royal Academicians who was sympathetic to, and was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, and under their influence turned to painting pictures of modern life. Personally he was an easy-going benign individual.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EThroughout his life Egg suffered from poor health, and he died aged only forty seven.
