An Artist's responsibility is always to represent the times in which he or she lives. Therefore, my most general goal for my artistic career is to represent our age in the most beautiful way possible. Whether I am working on portrait commissions, landscapes, or multi-figurative compositions, the handling of paint should carry the mood of the time. More specifically, my dream is to create life size, multi-figurative, narrative paintings which tell the stories of my own experience. Paintings about life in the American Midwest, paintings about the values that have gotten me where I am, and paintings also that look toward my hopes for the future. I believe that a sincere depiction of my own experience can reach a deeper and more universal human experience.

The first step toward reaching this goal is through continuing my education into the methods of painting. My first two years at the Florence Academy of Art opened my eyes to so many aspects of art, from the techniques of drawing and painting, to the history of art, to the mindset it takes to be an artist in our modern day. I believe that my third year will be invaluable to my growth as an artist and the development of my craft. As we continue to explore color, form and composition under some of the best instruction in the world, I intend to keep pushing my limits, experimenting and developing my voice, with which I can tell my stories and represent our times.
