I find a deep connection to the life I am trying to capture through painting and drawing. The telling of a story through visual representation. How to convey the struggles and joys in a single composition. What makes the human or objects in front of me what they are today. I am motivated to further explore this idea through and after the completion of my studies at the Florence Academy of Art. This idea of variety in unity extends much further than technique. It infiltrates all aspects of nature. My goal is to capture stories from around the globe from people of all walks of life onto canvas and paper. The signs of wear and tear contrasted with the blessings that life imprints on humans, shown in the way they carry themselves; communication without words . Maybe its the twinkle in the eye; concealing an ever ready laugh or the strength within gentleness, the smile to mask the suffering; each individual tells a unique tale which I crave to retell through the traditional art form of painting.

The skill of capturing life through art was given to us through the teaching of the many generations before us. We can hope it will be continued by passing the same to others to continue what we have learned. Without this passing of knowledge this art form will fade. After the gleaning of this knowledge from my many teachers and mentors, I have the desire to plant the seeds and love of art in the youth of today. I want to install passion in the next generation. To teach and give others the opportunity to learn what I have learned.

Emma Garay was born and raised in Southern California, being majorly influenced by the many cultures and the sea that surrounded her. Her imagination and love for creative work was cultivated at a young age. She dabbled with color and drawing materials in and through primary school. Her love for the classical arts was established in dance through ballet before making their switch to focusing on painting and drawing in the fall of 2018. It was then that she was given the opportunity to work as an assistant art teacher under Chapman Hamborg at Terra Arts Academy where they introduced a wide range of art mediums, with children ranging from ages five to fourteen. Emma began her own studies under Chapman Hamborg that same season. She took part in courses on human anatomy, landscaping with oils, and introduction to portraiture. With a new found wonder for traditional methods, Emma decided to apply to classical art schools abroad to refine her skills and devote her energy to a full time study of contemporary realism in art. She is now midway through her education at The Florence Academy of Art, completing her schooling in the intensive drawing program and moving onto painting in the intermediate program. Through the help of this scholarship she hopes to complete her studies at the Florence Academt of Art.
