I have just read your article, which you delivered in a speech at the Metropolitan Museum in June of 2001. As I read each word, I kept thinking, ‘Yes! Yes!’
Many a time I have sat in an art history class, racking my brain trying to see the beauty and attraction of the modernism, and ended up feeling stupid because I simply could not glean what apparently everyone else was engrossed by. But I am not a stupid person, to myself I thought, and finally decided that, indeed there was no beauty in the paintings that were being paraded in front of the class. Even so, I kept my thoughts to myself, and only voiced my opinion now and again in non-academic circles, for the fear of being labeled backward.
In short, I just wanted to thank you for the very eloquent and impassioned article, and for giving my thoughts and beliefs the backing of valid authority.
With Regards,
Vacheh J.
