MacColl on Cèzanne's spatial ambiguities

[Roger] Fry was not the first or last to write these long silly explanations/defenses on an artist's paintings. The funniest I ever saw was a 5 page treatise on the guy that does the solid white canvases. The perfect assignment for a creative writing major! A friend of mine, that reminds me of Iian actually, wrote one himself that sounded just as sincere and earnest which was pure gobbledygook. A gifted writer could write chapters on the essence of a flat tire, the writing can become down right fun, but the tire is still just as flat.

I'll bet the people that write about wine and food would be really good at this.
