I do realize this is a very elementary question by comparison to those here, what exactly is “optical?” I’ve read Adrian Gottlieb refer to optical reds, now optical grays have come up. In reading Adrian’s site, my correlation to “optical red” would be washing in vermilion. Am I completely off on this thought? Please bear with me, I’ve committed myself to the study of classical realism but now after many books, new brushes and materials and a portrait seminar with an atelier referred by ARC I’m out of money until I take on some mural work. This reference to “optical” I need to know.
