Degas's instructional model

From

If nobody has mentioned it already (I haven't sorted through all of these) Degas envisioned an academy where the model would be placed in one room. First year students would draw from the model. Second year students would be located next door, and would draw from the same pose, but would be required to walk to the other room, take in the information from the model, carry it with them to the next room, and make their marks. Third year students would have their studio on the 2nd floor.

Sounds like a recipe for frustration in my book.
