WHAT WILL I LEARN?

For this workshop you should already have experience with oil paints. If you still feel unsure about taking portraits of the real model, we recommend the portrait drawing workshop. You can combine these directly and turn it into an intensive 2-week workshop or take them individually one after the other. 

In this workshop you will learn the most important basics of painting portraits in oil from a real model. To do this, we begin with an introduction to the anatomy of the skull. An understanding of bones and muscles will help you understand and convey the portrait. 

After a few exercises, we then turn our attention to the topic of color theory. Here we will focus in particular on creating the palette for skin tones. You will learn which colors are generally suitable for portraiture and should not be missing from your palette. 

But you'll spend most of your time painting directly from the model. Our teachers will guide you through the process step by step. Inserted theory blocks allow you to understand the process better and help you achieve your goal: painting a portrait that has the greatest possible resemblance to the model.

 

Info/Period

5-day workshop with 30 lessons. Lessons take place from Monday to Friday from 09:30 - 16:30. There is a lunch break from 12:30 - 13:30. The workshop is taught in German and/or English. We will enquire about your language skills for this.

 

Materials

For this workshop we need materials for oil painting. This includes painting surfaces, oil paints, brushes, etc. Before the workshop begins, you will receive a list of materials to get everything you need. If you are unsure about some materials, we will of course be happy to give you direct recommendations.
