Academy of Fine Art Germany

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced learners. Since portraiture of people is the supreme discipline in art, we recommend that beginners with no general drawing experience attend the basic drawing workshop first.
Portraits have long enjoyed great importance in Western culture. Today it is impossible to imagine life without selfies. But anyone who has ever tried to draw their counterpart or themselves will often not be completely satisfied with the result. Therefore, in this workshop you will learn the important basics of the anatomy of the human head. This will help you better understand the shape and facial expressions of the portrait. For example, in one of your first exercises you will draw the human skull.
As you progress, you will learn the measurement techniques you need to draw directly from the model. Of course, these techniques can be used not only when drawing from the model, but also when drawing from photo templates or similar.
In order to convey the likeness of a portrait, it is important to understand shape, volume, line quality and tonalities. In this workshop, our teachers will guide you step by step through the most important topics in portraiture.
