Martin Schongauer was one of the most popular Germanic artists of the late Middle Ages – and one of the major figures of this period. 

The exhibition presents a wide selection of his drawings and engravings and, for the first time, a near-complete collection of his paintings (altarpieces and easel paintings), including the 1473 Madonna of the Rose Bower, his only painting on panel whose date of creation is known. His works reveal a well-read artist with a penchant for fine, inventive storytelling and a skillful eye for natural subjects.

The exhibition runs from April 8 – July 20, 2026 at the Louvre, Rue de Rivoli, Paris 75001, France.

The National Museum's exhibition devoted to Asta Nørregaard explores the full breadth of the artist’s work. The focus is on portraits, pastels and fashion, but there are also paintings on religious themes, evocative landscapes and detailed interiors.

For many years, Nørregaard was overshadowed by more famous contemporaries, but recently she has gained recognition as a substantial force in Norwegian art history. The exhibition shows many of her major works from the late 1870s through to the 1920s, with an emphasis on the period around 1900.

The famous city views of Giovanni Antonio Canaletto and his nephew Bernardo Bellotto (who often called himself Canaletto as well, to emphasize his connection to his celebrated uncle) take center stage in the upcoming exhibition at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. With the help of optical devices, such as the camera obscura, these two Venetian painters surveyed European cities with scientific precision, yet creatively transformed what they saw into grand pictorial scenes.

Both artists painted spectacular views of their hometown, Venice, but they both left the lagoon city to pursue their careers abroad: Canaletto moved to London, while Bellotto worked in Dresden and Vienna.  

Featuring major international loans – many of which have never before been exhibited in Austria – the exhibition invites viewers to rediscover the eighteenth-century city and two artists whose careers mirror a Europe shaped by mobility, war, and uncertainty.

Mr. Xu Mangyao, a distinguished contemporary Chinese oil painter, renowned art educator and leading representative of Chinese realist oil painting, Honorary Dean and former Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Shanghai Normal University, as well as Doctoral Supervisor at the China Academy of Art, passed away in Beijing at 6:46 on June 2, 2026, at the age of 81, after losing his battle with illness.

For several years Mr. Xu served as a jury member for the International Salon Competition hosted by the Art Renewal Center (ARC), the world’s largest realist art competition. His lifelong artistic pursuits and practices are fully aligned with the mission of ARC. For many years, he collaborated with fellow artists worldwide to advance the revival of international realist art.

The International Guild of Realism’s Annual Juried Exhibition is a leading showcase for contemporary realism, celebrating technical mastery and artistic excellence.

Spanning the Renaissance to the Rococo period, this exhibition celebrates the vitality and originality of the arts in Venice and the Veneto region through more than 30 drawings and prints. In the 16th century, Venice became a thriving artistic center rivaling Rome and Florence. Patronage fostered creative competition among family workshops, such as the Bassano and Tintoretto families. After a period of decline, Venice experienced a second golden age in the 18th century. This was illustrated with dazzling bravura by humorous scenes from contemporary life by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) and his son Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo (1726–1804), as well as alluring portraits by Rosalba Carriera (1673–1757). Glistening maritime views by Francesco Guardi (1712–1793) and Canaletto (1697–1768) crystallized the imagery of the Venetian landscape for centuries to come. From landscapes and figure studies to designs for sumptuous decorations, the works presented in this exhibition offer a fresh look at this memorable place in history and art.

The exhibition takes place at the Legion of Honor 100 34th Ave., San Francisco, CA from January 24 – August 2, 2026.

The American Artists Professional League (AAPL) is pleased to present its 98th Annual Grand National Exhibition.

The entry period begins on May 29 and the deadline to submit is August 11, 2026. The competition is open to members and non-members. Over $35K in awards will be given.

Their flagship Juried Exhibition is once again at the historic Salmagundi Club in New York City from November 17 - December 4, 2026.

Old German, Old Dutch and 16th/17th century Flemish painting come together in this exhibition.  The art of storytelling is highlighted and asks of the viewer how, what and by whom is it told? What purpose do artists and clients pursue at different times, and to which audience are they addressed? Or is it unclear, perhaps deliberately misleading the viewers? These and other questions are raised by the presentation, in which often nothing is as it seems at first glance.
