Mark Garro

United States

A New York-based artist, Mark Garro has assembled a diverse portfolio. A miniaturist who works big, Garro’s work often features classically beautiful figures as cosmological cogs working within the complex mechanisms of the Universe. The dynamic motion of familiar shapes morphing and implying other familiar images are seen creating, destroying and re-creating once again in two dimensions but implying four. His style can be described as Technical Fusion combining hyper realism and trompe l’oeil elements mixed with spontaneous and looser application of paint. A mix of modern and traditional, Garro’s pieces offer a visual map of the human condition and portray the sensibility that we all must share in order to continue to exist together. Opposing themes with a touch of humor and hope are depicted through the motifs of “above and below” featuring water and intriguing creatures. Also a dedicated musician, Garro’s studio at his Mountain-top home in the Catskills is transformed weekly with live concerts featuring his soulful baritone saxophone. more at www.markgarro.com
