Aleksandra Katargina was born in Russia. She moved to US to pursue her education and got her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and her MFA from Towson University. In 2015 she was a recipient of Touchstone Foundation for the Art Fellowship. Aleksandra is heavily influenced by the Russian Masters of the 19th century. Her style is deeply rooted in realism and her work seeks to portray emotion and psychological drama. Aleksandra's art focuses on fusing traditional technique with contemporary subject matter. She is interested in preserving and accumulating knowledge of traditional painting techniques. Through her art, Aleksandra strives to slow down the maddening pace of today and to remind the viewer of the magic and beauty that visual language has to offer.
