Katie Koenig

United States

Katie Koenig is an acrylic artist who has been passionate about drawing and painting her whole life.  She wanted to make what she thought was a stable career out of her love for art by pursuing illustration.  After earning a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design, however, Katie realized that painting was her true calling.  She settled in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, where she was born and raised, and began to paint images of the places and objects that have impacted her the most.  She now focuses on dramatic yet simple still life paintings of food and objects that she has a great fondness for or nostalgic connection to, finding beauty in simple pleasures.  The memories surrounding food are powerful ones since they involve all five senses and are often shaped by the emotions and company we share our time with.  Katie purposefully leaves backgrounds bare so that the subject can exist without specificty of time or place, allowing the viewer to connect the subject to his or her own detailed memories.
