Barbara Cufino
Canada
Barbara was raised on a large cattle ranch and grain farm on the Canadian prairies. She was influenced during her formative years by her grandmother and younger sister who were accomplished artists and by the beauty of her prairie surroundings, the vivid blue skies and amber wheat fields.
She majored in art and psychology at the University of Saskatchewan receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. During an exercise in a drawing class while rendering the contour of a model she experienced a life changing moment of insight when it suddenly became clear she had to pursue her dream of becoming an artist.
Fast forward, a career, marriage and lovely daughter, she eventually began studying at the Academy of Realist Art, concentrating on her passion for portrait and figure drawing and painting, and still life. She feels fortunate to be following her dream and the joy it brings each day.
She was encouraged when a charcoal and carbon pencil drawing ‘Simla’ become a finalist in the 2013/2014 ARC Salon and felt a sense of validation of her chosen path.
