Grace Athena Flott

United States

Grace Athena Flott is best known for filtering our contemporary world through the lens of classical painting and drawing. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, she transitioned from community organizing to art making after a serious fire-related injury left her searching for meaning. Realist art became a language of storytelling and the meditative process of painting was instrumental in her healing. Atelier-trained in the style of 19th century French academies, Grace uses traditional materials like oils, charcoal, and graphite to translate the experience of seeing. Her portraits, figures, still lives, and on location “plein air” landscapes celebrate and reveal the emotional relevance of ordinary things. Her paintings have shown at galleries around the Northwest including the Maryhill Museum of Art, Puget Sound Group Gallery, Royal Nebeker Gallery, Gage Academy of Art, and many community venues. She was awarded “People’s Choice Award” for her painting “Broken (Triptych)” at the 2018 Best of Gage Annual Show. She is published in magazines and books including Artist and Illustrator UK and Drawing Atelier by Juliette Aristides. Grace is also a youth arts instructor at the Gage Academy. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
