Leon Doucette

Leon Doucette is a painter and curator who was born in 1989 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He earned his BFA from The New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH, where he graduated with highest honors. His artwork, which has received both international and regional awards, has been shown primarily around New England, as well as in New York, California and Washington D.C. Recent awards include the Gold Medal at the Guild of Boston Artists' 2018 Regional Juried Exhibition and First Place Drawing at the Portrait Society of America's 20th Annual International Portrait Competition. His work has also been selected as a finalist in the 13th International Art Renewal Center Salon Competition.

Since 2011, he has served on the curatorial staff of the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Selected exhibits he has assisted in organizing include Marsden Hartley: Soliloquy in Dogtown (2012) ,  John Sloan: Gloucester Days (2015), and Drawn from Nature and on Stone: The Lithographs of Fitz Henry Lane (2017).

Owing to his experiences as a curator in constant dialogue with artists of the past, Leon works in a traditional style, employing various academic techniques to create timeless, subtle images. He is interested in the physicality of his subjects and works primarily with the figure or still life
