Natalie Dark is a New York City based artist who combins traditional technique with a contemporary perspective. Dark's attention to detail and precision requires a certain level of mindfulness, which lends itself to rich color and visual depth that results in finished pieces reminiscent of oil paintings created by 17th-century Dutch Masters. As a theme, mindfulness is woven throughout her body of work in direct response to her environment and reflections on personal identity and cultural experience. Dark aims to inspire others to be more mindful about the world, to find beauty in the objects that we interact with on a dialy basis and therefore overlook. She does this through both her subject and medium. By using colored pencils, a medium often considered lowbrow, childish, limited, Dark hopes to inspire others tothink about how they can use what they have at their disposal to make masterpieces, rather than always aiming for "more".
