David Sandell

United Kingdom

As a designer /illustrator, my time is split between design and my art studio where I work predominantly in pencil and oils.

I use pencil to explore concepts; these drawings often then take on a life of their own. As a portrait artist, I remain fascinated by the human face as a representation of self and its ability to send subtle messages we still don’t fully appreciate. I am also influenced by the power of words and music in relation to the human condition and identity.

Working mainly from commission I don’t consider my work mainstream, but have gained some recognition in recent years: Voted Top 100 Artists/Illustrators 2014 by 'Creative Quarterly' USA; Finalist at International Portrait awards 2015 – Portrait Society of America.

As a designer/illustrator my focus is portraiture using pencils and oils mainly for commissions. I have exhibited with various societies: Royal Society of British Artists, Portrait Society of America and published in various art publications (e.g. Strokes of Genius Vol 6-10, and International Artist magazine).
