Alessandro Tomassetti (b. 1970, Toronto) is a Canadian figurative painter based in Barcelona. He has created special effects for Hollywood feature films, designed and manufactured a line of menswear and created popular apps for the iPhone. Yet, it was a 2014 workshop with hyper-realist painter, Eloy Morales, that revealed his true calling and he has been dedicated to and humbled by painting since.
Known for his intimate portraits of contemporary men, Tomassetti employs dramatic lighting and a moody color palette to compliment his naturalistic rendering technique. He captures the vulnerability and sensuality of his male subjects in ways that are most often associated with the female form. Tomassetti’s oil paintings seduce the viewer into exploring and appreciating shades of contemporary masculinity outside of the common, and restrictive, norm.
