Michael Dumas

              Michael Dumas has been active as a full time artist since the early 1970’s. During this time he has gained national and international recognition for his highly personal and sensitive renditions of wildlife, rural themes, and people. His art has been displayed in such notable Canadian institutions as the McMichael Canadian Collection, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the National Museum of Canada. International exhibitions include the Suntory Museum of Art, Japan, The International Museum of Art Inspired by Nature – England,  Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, USA, The National Museum of Wildlife Art – USA, Salmagundi Club NYC, Houston Museum of Natural Science USA, Hiram Bleauvelt Art Museum USA, Sternberg Museum of Natural History USA, Arizona Desert Museum USA, Qingdao Lan Wan Gallery, China, and MEAM – The Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, Spain to name but a few.

           Michael is listed in many biographical reference volumes, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Canada, Who’s Who in the World, and the International Register of Profiles. His art has also been featured on Canadian postage stamps and commemorative coins produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Numerous awards include 2 ARC International Salon Dual Category Awards, Artists For Conservation Best of Show and 7 Medals of Excellence, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society Award of Excellence, Society of Animal Artists President’s Artistic Achievement Award, Peterborough Pathway of Fame, Kawartha Order of the Arts, Algonquin Art Centre Legacy Award, and Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award.

         Update 2018: Michael is the very first recipient of the Algonquin Legacy Award presented by the Algonquin Art Centre in June 2018. His painting ‘Sparrow’s Rest’ which is featured in a new publication, Artists of Kawartha,has been purchased by the Leigh-Yawkey Woodson Art Museum for its permanent collection. The painting is on display as part of the 2018 Birds in Art exhibition at the museum until the end of November and is then part of the Birds in Art national touring exhibition through to the end of 2019. Two AFC Medals of Excellence were awarded to Michael this year, and he is a participant in the AFC Silent Skies Mural Project, which was unveiled in conjunction with the International Ornithological Congress held in Vancouver, September 2018.
