Hala (Wittwer) Swearingen began her career by earning a BFA in Illustration at Brigham Young University and working as an illustrator. Some of her clients include Bath and Body Works, HarperCollins, Hyperion, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Penguin/Putnam, Random House, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, Somerset House, and Tor Books. After illustrating for over 10 years, she earned an MFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University and began teaching illustration full-time at California State University Fullerton. After 6 years in California, she moved on to teach at Southern Utah University where she currently teachs a variety of illustration, drawing, and painting courses. She has several artistic processes and styles and creates her artworks with a variety of media. Her primary focus in fine art is an acrylic and oil combination with a representational approach. Her artwork has received recognition in national and international competitions sponsored by the Society of Illustrators New York, Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, Communication Arts, Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, Hiii Illustraiton, IJungle Awards, Creative Quarterly, 3x3 Magazine, and the Art Renewal Center.
