René Tweehuysen

René Tweehuysen (1957, Netherlands, Utrecht) completed his study at the University of the Arts Utrecht in 1983. René is typically a painter who works in the tradition of the Dutch art of painting. His portraits convey a modern atmosphere. In the technique used there are, however, similarities with the techniques of the 16th and 17th century Old Masters. He paints with oil and tempera on canvas or woodpanel. Progressive layers in a varied, sometimes subtile, and then again with broad strokes, Tweehuysen tries to capture the likeness and soul of his subject. Over the years René has painted portraits for numerous individuals and notables, among others the portrait of Queen Beatrix. His work has been seen in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe and has previously been exhibited in the Royal Society of  Portrait Painters 2005 Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. The portrait of his son ‘Finn’was selected for the BP Portrait Award Exhibition 2018 in the National Gallery in London.
