"When depicting animals, I enjoy the opportunity of occasionally offering a view of species that are not as often represented in animal art. What draws me to recreate a certain moment or encounter can be an animal's pose or attitude, the lighting or the feel of its environment, or a story that needs to be told. In Behold but Beware, it was the lighting that inspired me. It draws attention to the beautiful, but venomous, fanned out fins of the lionfish. These defensive spines are precisely what allow this fish to swim with the admirable slow grace I aimed to portray." - TAMARA POKORNY
