"I aim to communicate what is inherently and universally human. It's not my goal to make political statements, instead my work addresses itself to the inner world of the individual.

A common method for my larger compositions is to start by blocking in the big shapes in color, and once that is dry I will put on a final layer, finishing section by section. But my method and technique varies from painting to painting. I would likely get bored without the experimentation.

This painting was a part of my recent solo show called "Urbanized" where I explored the human conditions in the modern cityscape.

We see a bunch of unfamiliar people stocked together like monkeys in a small cage, mentally detached from one another and, occupied by their own existential agonies—this is what I see right now. Tomorrow I might see something else." – NICK ALM
