"My painting Bartlett Falls is the product of nearly a year's worth of regular visits to, and frequent life studies of, a local waterfall by the same name. During the months I watched and painted the falls, they swelled with water and then shrunk to almost nothing during drier months. Sometimes I was surrounded by sunbathing locals, and sometimes I was completely alone with the sound of the river. I chose to portray the falls very simply with just three elements: the river as it falls, the giant slabs of rock that create the basin, and a shaft of morning sunlight. It's my best effort to capture the essence of Bartlett Falls." - TJ CUNNINGHAM
