Barns are the collective centers of farms and communities. They are places of storage, of safety, of refuge. They are the difference between a garden and a farm; between feeding a family, and supplying a nation with food. They are also very visible symbols of those individuals and families who give their lives to working the land. This piece in many ways is a portrait of my own ancestors who worked our family farm and handed down their lives the best they could so that I can build mine.
